Possible stolen truck found submerged in Flint Creek
Daily Photo by Gary Cosby Jr.
Morgan County Rescue Squad divers and wrecker service workers helped recover a submerged pickup from 12 to 15 feet of water in Flint Creek near the boat launch on U.S. 31 South on Monday afternoon. Decatur police said the white 1997 Ford F-150 was possibly stolen from a local business about two years ago and had been in the water for some time. Fishermen spotted the vehicle over the weekend. Detective Lt. Rick Archer said he was surprised it hadn't been found sooner, but the water near the launch is deep. Sgt. George Silvestri said police suspect the truck disappeared from Industrial Rubber & Supply sometime in 2010. The owner apparently didn't report the theft because the old, beat-up vehicle wasn't worth much, Silvestri said.
