This cannot be true! Blacks cannot succeed in this society because "the deck is stacked against them" per Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and the other race hustlers like President "you didn't build that" Obama and Elizabeth "I am part Indian" Warren. If this lady can succeed academically other blacks can succeed as well. If these stories of black success keep appearing other blacks may be tempted to be successful in life. The horror! The greater the level of economic success the more likely blacks are to oppose higher taxes, just like people of all colors. If they are not careful, successful blacks could become white racists.

What a positive and proactive idea. It obviously works for at least one school in Alabama, why not for our school system here? We are fortunate that our Superintendant is progressive minded enough to allow each school to taylor its solutions to its needs.I was shocked to learn that Decatur has a 62% poverty rate! Is this correct?

Review the study Joe. Be sure to note the annual income that is considered "poverty". The latest government numbers reveal that, on average, welfare recipients receive $45,000 per year in taxpayer dollars. The sixty-two percent statistic is terribly misleading. But, thanks for trying. - Democrat Party

This site has poverty related statistics that claim Decatur is 18.31 percent below poverty level. A different page breaks it down by zipcode; 35601 = 24.01% and 35603 = 10.58%
