PRICEVILLE — Randall Martin picked up his first win as a high school varsity head coach Friday night as Rogers opened up a big lead en route to a 28-12 victory over Priceville.
Rogers (1-1, 1-0 region) used a powerful running game to take control early. The Pirates finished with 314 yards rushing. Hank Thigpen gave Rogers an early 7-0 lead when he capped a four-play, 82-yard scoring drive with a 16-yard touchdown run.Priceville (1-1, 0-1) lost a fumble on the next play from scrimmage, and Raleigh Killen recovered for the Pirates at the Bulldogs 25. Four plays later, Killen scored on a 5-yard run and Rogers led 14-0 with 3:08 remaining in the first quarter.
After forcing a Priceville punt, Rogers drove 69 yards in nine plays to extend its lead to 21-0. Killen again capped the drive with a 5-yard scoring run.Rogers took the 21-0 lead into halftime and added to it in the third quarter. Paul McCombs broke free off right tackle and outran the pursuit for a 68-yard touchdown run that made it 28-0. Priceville scored two touchdowns in the final five minutes. Both touchdowns came on passes from Caleb Barker hit Tyler Charest.
