Technology should be used, as I am a supporter of every student having access to a laptop, tablet, or e-reader. However, I can tell you from personal observations that cell phones in the classroom is not a good idea. When they are not allowed, I still catch students using them to text during class. They think they are sneaky and hiding it, but I see them, and most of the time it is the high school students that are worse than the middle school students, so I respectfully disagree with the young man he says he is more mature to handle it just because he is in high school.
What bothers me about these students having their devices is the potential for videoing other students in the locker rooms, bathrooms, and in class. Children with special needs can be recorded for the purpose of making fun of them.
I think the rule should also apply to teacher, I've heard students complain about teachers spending most of their class time on their computers or cell phone... The teachers are at work, so personal computer time and phone calls should be limited to break time and between classes... I know this will not be a popular post..
