How about using some of that surplus for some capital improvements -or- give some of it back to the tax payers -or- lower the sales tax -or- cut the rates for some of the city services. Just some suggestions. This is not a time to sit on money. If there is an excess reserve, then the excess needs to be spent to create jobs by doing worthy projects or rebated into the pockets of the citizens of Decatur.

How easy it seems to be for our elected leaders to spend OUR money as fast as they can get their hands on it. There is a reason Decatur has had a high bond rating for many years, responsible leaders who follow the rules and are good stewards of OUR money. These current officials have shown how irresponsible and devious they are. Maybe it was Gail Busbey that kept a close watch on how OUR money was used and why she is no longer there. Her replacement seems to have a different interpretation of the council resolution, hum, guess she wants to keep her job. Herman Marks can only give an opinion, he is not the final word.
