Raising Medicare eligibility age may cost aging seniors
WASHINGTON — Americans are living longer, and Republicans want to raise the Medicare eligibility age as part of any deal to reduce the government’s huge deficits. But what sounds like a … More »

Anyone who follows the deficit spending and can do basic arithmetic could see this coming. There will also be a "means test" and an increase in the age of Social Security benefits as well. We can't afford it, and you can thank your elected officials (for the last 10 years, or so) for that. Another option is to slash military spending for approximately 5-10 years and take a chance that no one decides to attack us or our allies. Buying votes has it's costs.

In other words to hell with the people who have built and maintained this country and paid in all their lives to have something to fall back on when they retire if they live long enough. Sounds like Obama's grand plan to me , kill off the seniors and take over the world all he is interested in is turmoil and destruction of our society. Seniors can barely get by now and he wants to take more from them and put more burden on them. Have they not paid in their share our wages have been taxed to death now , and then he wants us to pay for what we have already paid for and earned as part of the work force that built this country he is destroying one day at a time. God help us all , how did this Idiot get back in the White house at the helm of our country. Most Seniors can not even afford food and the drugs they need now or utilities for their homes if they have one. They have to choose between drugs they need to live or eating a lot of the time , that is a ridiculous way to have to live and he wants to make it worse. Tax the Rich its time they paid their share instead of the working class poor footing the bill for all the wasteful spending these Idiots have created. this is not some third world country , but Obama wants to turn it into one.I say its time for a grass roots movement to Impeach him we could not vote him out because they rigged the elections , maybe we can Impeach his worthless butt.

Good idea!!!

Read the article again Tbone, it's the REPUBLICANS that are wanting to raise the age. It's also the REPUBLICANS that are not wanting to raise taxes for the rich. I believe you're mistaken about Obama wanting to turn this into a third world country...Think about it-Low taxes for the rich, no healthcare for the working poor, against union organization that helps workers make a living wage-these are the things that comprise a third world country, and this what the republicans want. Keep supporting republicans and eventually that's what you're going to have, a two-class country, where the average worker can't support themselves, let alone a family.

Imagine you have a fleet of cruise ships and you can't afford to pay the payments on them. So in order to decide how to save some money, you create a big fight over whether you will serve champagne or ripple on the ships. This sounds absurd but look at the numbers. We spend $3.6 trillion a year and have a deficit of over $1 trillion a year. $1 trillion is $1,000 billion. 5% cut to medicare spending per year would be $22 billion. Yay!, only $978 more billion to go to even think of balancing the budget, much less paying down the $16,200 billion national debt. Meanwhile, we have budget line items labeled "Other" where we are spending over $100 billion a year. This whole fiasco is the result of NOT passing a budget in over 3 years. Our vacationing CEO of the country should have been fired if not impeached.

Gee Obama doin such a good job yeah soon as hades freezes over
