To The Daily: As a retired veteran, I am acutely aware of the sacrifices our veterans make to guard our freedoms. We cannot forget about our elder veterans.
Nationwide, 16 million Americans served in World War II. Fewer than 1.5 million are still living today. Those "greatest generation" veterans are dying at a rate of nearly 700 a day.
Through a partnership with the federal government and private industry, the state of Alabama maintains four veterans homes: one in Alexander City, in Bay Minette, a new one in Pell City, and the Floyd E. "Tut" Fann Home in Huntsville.
Please take time during this holiday season to remember these heroes.
