Reprimand in dog shooting
Decatur police officers cited for not turning on microphones, not for killing apartment complex canine
Decatur’s police chief said allegations of wrongdoing against two officers who fired as many as 13 shots during the Jan. 1 shooting and killing of a dog at Danville Park Apartments were “not … More »

I think those 2 for sure need to go to the target range, 13 shots to kill one dog... I guess I missed it, Did they even kill the dog? If so 13 shots is a little over kill... Go practice....

Let the Monday morning quarterbacking begin.....

Rightfully so Roger, folks read "boxer" and automatically assume it is a vicious attack dog. We can't just let the police do as they please and sit with our mouths closed because it's not politically correct to question their actions. Most are outstanding and do a great service for the citizens they protect, but mistakes are made and should be addressed.

It took 13 shots to put one dog down? Can you say excessive? I've seen first hand that when a dog's owner is in danger the dog will attack to protect his human. The animal feeds on the emotions of humans and react accordingly. As for the "stray bullet" going into someones apartment, if "Joe Blow" off the street does this not only do they go to jail for discharging a weapon in the city limits but also for firing into an occupied building. These two officers need to have more than a few days on the range, "underwent training on how to determine if a dog is aggressive and an attack is imminent and if so, how to handle the situation". Sounds to me like these guys messed up and didn't follow police policy with the microphones and cameras as well. Send them back to training for more than a few days, demote them to desk duty until they can prove that they can do what is right by the people of the city! The police motto is "Serve and Protect" not "shoot first then ask questions and not follow policy"!

Boxer dogs are not known to be vicious, they usually are rather timid

Either the dog was half vampire or those two need some target practice.

The Chief and the DA say shooting into an occupied dwelling is no crime if no criminal intent is intended. You know...kinda like "whoops, pardon me".

Yep all you nay sayers call you a crack head next time you need the police and see how much help you get or your local corner thug they,ll really help , they,ll rob and beat then kick you while you are down. I believe I,ll call a police officer myself regardless of what they have to shoot even if its me , they do an excellent job. If the people at the apartments had not been trouble makers to begin with no one would have called the police to start with. People largely cause their on problems and woes. If they would act civilized and be part of society instead of acting like thug trash and behaving like fools - - there would be no problems. People have no manners , no courtesy , no decency or respect for anyone and they want to be respected - -

It goes both ways - - respect and you will be respected - act like a scab on societies butt and you will be treated like a scab parasite that you are - - People cause problems and make animals mean by mistreating them also

Typical trigger happy Decatur thugs, or cops. Look at violence all over the city lately, any improvements? Yet, go to court with the local judges backing up these so called police officers and see who comes out. 13 shots at a dog? Come on, who in their right mind can buy this?

So if a dog is attacking you how many shots are you people gonna take 1 or 13??? I'm gonna unload the clip

Or maybe you people skipped the part where they tried to tase the dog first but then had to fire at it. We're they supposed to get bit first then shoot? When a bulldog attacks you lets see what you do? Oh that's right you will be the one dialing 911 wanting the police to come take care of it.....

Poor animal, sounds like they were the officers were hotheaded and just had to kill something..so wrong....

This "boxer" could have had some pit bulldog in it! what would you do if a dog was coming at you? would you ask what breed it is??? All of you people criticizing need to put yourself in their shoes, if you haven't been there, you don't know what you would have done!!

dang how can anyone afford the deposit for 2 dogs in an apartment?
