Russellville defeats Hartselle 6-3

RUSSELLVILLE — Landon Smothers' 40-yard touchdown pass to CJ Posey on fourth-and-four gave Russellville a 6-3 victory over rival Hartselle tonight.

Smothers also converted a third-and-28 on the touchdown drive with a 29-yard pass to Bud Coleman. The PAT after the touchdown failed. The winning score came with 2:03 left in the game.

Hartselle scored on a field goal just 51 seconds before halftime on a 28-yard kick. The scoring drive covered 38 yards on seven plays in the defensive struggle.

Hartselle dropped to 6-3 overall and 5-2 in the tight Class 5A, Region 8 race. Russellville is 7-2, 5-2.
