In my opinion, a Sam's Club makes more sense for residents in the Decatur/Priceville/Hartselle area as it will mean they will not have to drive to Huntsville. Whereas, there is already a Publix in the area.

Neither will go because Priceville is too small. Come on! Really? Madison has 3 Publix stores. Decatur can support 2. Simple, build it in the 31and 67 area, it will attract Hartselle and Priceville customers also. The Publix in Decatur is packed, and one on the east side would work.

Decatur needs a Sam's Club. Let's keep fingers crossed.

Publix is clean but higher priced than most stores here. I tried the Fillets at Publix for 19.99 a lb. and Kroger Fillets at 10.99 and rathatr had a better taste from the Froger fillets. Sam's club would be better off here in Decatur because of the opulation, not alcohol sales. Although Target give them some conpetition on a lot of times. The small amount of extra money saves you from driving to Huntsville so you do come out ahead.

From " hoping a Sam’s Club or Publix" will locate in Priceville, and "no retailers have approached the council", to a full article about speculation? Really? Anyone with a brain knows they are "hoping" for anything to generate more tax revenue. If you're gonna speculate, why not throw Costco in the mix? Now there's a name I could get behind. Costco officials would not comment about new locations...... Slow news day, I suppose. (Gotta love that eye-grabbing headline though).

Costco would be better than Sam's both for consumers and for people employed there. This area does not need another parasitic WalMart store that gets loads of tax breaks to build here, doesn't pay its employees decent wages or benefits, puts locally owned mom & pop stores out of business, and does nothing to give back to the community from which it profits.

This is all manufactured out of the thin air by people trying to to make a fast dollar either on real estate or on bars and nightclubs at the expense of the families of Priceville. When all the misrepresentation blows over and and reality sets and all everybody sees is cheap bars and clubs the town will vote NO on alcohol again....

Both Publix and Sam's would be great for Priceville/Decatur. The prices may be higher at Publix but try going to Walmart and getting any service out of employees. Publix sets a higher standard in their employees than Walmart and will not put up with employees like Walmart does. Sorry Walmart employees but that's the truth. Publix also has items that you would not find at Walmart. As for Sam's I drive to Sam's in Huntsville several times a month to purchase items. Hope Decatur/Pricevile doesn't blow this deal if it can be made. Think revenue for the cities.

Sam's is a joke

when buying for a summer camp

we found the regular Wal-mart to be cheaper

Priceville Fire (volunteer) and Police would be considered inadequate by site-selection people at Sam's and COSTCO.

It's a small town, (which is how the residents like it).

Publix might consider Priceville F&P services adequate.

Why not a Bass Pro shop? I would rather have that than a Sam's club which is part of Walmart.

Doug you need to come by Priceville Fire and check out the department before you call us inadequate. We have a $700,000 ladder truck 3 class A engines worth another $700,000 plus 2 brush trucks a rescue truck and HAZMAT trailer. We may not be paid but we have a class 4 ISO fire rating which a lot of paid departments would love to have. I will put our equipment and firefighters up against any department. Yes I am a member of the department and take offense to someone making statements like you did. Why would you say it is in adequate do some research on volunteer departments and you will find that some of the best departments in the U.S. are volunteer.

great headline. I thought it was a done deal until reading the article.

Priceville and Hartselle are building up! I would love to sell my Decatur home and move to either of these towns! Guess these are just ideals for Priceville. Whatever builds the city up, I love it!!!

I just want to know what happened to the Sonic by the high school and the Taco Bell. Those were both announced as coming in 2008 and nothing has ever been heard since. My vote is for one of the neighborhood Wal-marts.

I would like to see a Krogers also with a fuel center, Or a Chic-fil-a or a Red robin or Jason's deli.

The town is too small for these BIG stores.

2,885 people are not enough for these store's if anyone got my previous sarcasim.

There are no Sam's in small towns.....Although the I65/1565 intersection across the river in Limestone County has a lot more traffic than I65 and Alabama 67......There was talk of a Bass Pro Shop there a few years ago, before the recession...

Please Publix!!!!

Bernice, what exactly are you expecting from the Walmart employees? It's a low price, deep discount, big box store that attracts cheap buyers like you with low prices. They keep low prices by keeping all costs low, and that includes personnel. The store is staffed with as few as possible employees, and they add temps during seasonal high sales weeks. For you to choose the low prices at Walmart but expect service like you paid for a night at the Ritz-Carlton is unreasonable. Too bad the Walmart employees have to put up with customers like you. I've always found them helpful and friendly.

Decatur with over 50,000 hasn't convinced Sam's to locate there....so why will having a few beer joints convince them to move to Priceville with 2,000?

For years I had wal-marts phone number programed into my cell phone because they would move their inventory around so much to make you look for it like it's a shell game. I would call from inside the store and ask the manager to send someone to help me find it, It may take a while but someone would come and assist me. My theory was if everyone started doing that then perhaps they would abandon their shell game. So I started shopping more at Target and let me tell you THAT IS A PLEASURE, Clean store no constant paging for a CSM to register so and so, And if I get in line [Key word here is line] Three people deep then they open another register Casinokid likes that. and I don't mind paying for that kind of service either.

Biggest thing the Decatur area can support is another convenience store.

The truck stop in priceville is only there because of the interstate, not the local traffic.

Decatur has less than a town the size of Corinth, Ms. has because it is so close to Huntsville/Madison and is too hard to do business in. Most professional retailers will not tolerate Decatur's petty BS when it comes to locating a business in this area.

Priceville could seize upon Decatur's inability to draw a big retailer, but they do not have the resources to support it.

Look at Target, there is very rarely more than 25-30 people in there at any one time, and Kohl's will not be open more than a couple of years before it scales back dramatically.

I didn't read the above comments, so forgive me if I repeat any of them here.

Why does Decatur NOT ALREADY have a Costco or Sam's Club?

That, my dear friends, is the real question. Why is it that Decatur residents HAVE to travel so far for such stores?

No matter which side of the issue you fall on, the question is valid and the answer is the same.
