Jordan Simpson was perfect at the plate, leading Lawrence County High with four hits and five RBIs as the Red Devils advanced past Hatton 12-2 Thursday in the opening round of the Lawrence County baseball tournament.
Lawrence County (7-3) advances to Saturday’s title game, while Hatton plays East Lawrence in the tournament semifinal.
Luke Lovelady finished with two hits, including a triple, while Carson Jones and Blake Pulliam added two hits for Lawrence County.
Pulliam got the pitching win, throwing three innings before Preston Montgomery and Zach Nichols pitched in relief.
Lawrence County 11, East Lawrence 0: Carson Jones drove in three runs and Pulliam added two RBIs.
Clark LouAllen got the pitching win, striking out two in 2 2/3 innings. Tanner Reed struck out three in 2 1/3 innings of relief.
Lovelady led Lawrence County at the plate with two singles and an RBI, while Simpson and Zack Terry each had a single and an RBI.
Athens Bible 15-14, Athens 9-6: The Class 1A No. 2 Trojans swept a doubleheader from Athens.
In Game 1, Zach Ivey got the pitching win, giving up seven hits in four innings.
Sam Bobo led Athens Bible (7-0) at the plate with a double and a single, while Blake Cundiff had a double and an RBI. Cole Graviett added a single and two RBIs.
Brett Lewter led Athens (2-4) with two hits.
In Game 2, Bobo got the pitching win in four innings of relief.
Hayden Phillips led Athens Bible at the plate with three singles, while Bobo had a double and a triple. Carter Corneil added two singles and a double for the Trojans, while Jacob Hagewood, Graviett and Douglas Fields had two hits each.
Luke Robinson led Athens at the plate with a double.
Athens Bible travels to Brewer today, while Athens travels to Buckhorn.
West Morgan 12, Danville 9: Drew McPherson struck out five while giving up three hits to get the pitching win.
Sam Hughes finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead West Morgan (3-2) at the plate, while Clay McDonald, Blake New and McPherson had two hits each.
Parker Hogan led Danville at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with four RBIs.
Ardmore 5, Westminster Christian 2: Cody Reed led Ardmore with a triple and two RBIs as the Class 4A No. 10 Tigers (5-2) beat Westminster Christian.
Ardmore rallied for three runs in the sixth inning, and added another in the seventh to get the win.
Cody Elliott got the pitching win, while Donny Rogers recorded the save.
Elliott finished with a double and an RBI for Ardmore, while Austin Turner and Thomas Davidson had one RBI each.
Decatur Heritage 14, Elkmont 0: Zach Armstrong struck out five while giving up three hits in the complete-game win at Elkmont (3-3).
Armstrong, Lee Godwin, Kyle Lasch and Pierce Thompson led Decatur Heritage (2-2) with two hits each, while Sawyer Holland added a double and Collin Fuller had a single.
Decatur Heritage travels to Danville today.
Decatur boys 1, Buckhorn 1: Francisco Tirado scored in the second half for Decatur to tie the score.
Drew Bedsole had an assist for Decatur (4-3-1).
Decatur (4-3-1) travels to Hartselle today.
Austin boys 5, Walker 0: Dalton Crosley scored two goals for the Black Bears, while Jonathan Ramirez, Nick Hull and Irving Vera each added one.
Austin (6-1-1) led 4-0 at halftime, and Jacob Gomez played in goal.
The Black Bears host Buckhorn on Monday.
Grissom boys 159, Austin 174: Erik Aviles and Sean Sears both shot 40 to lead Austin in a match at Decatur Country Club.
Matthew Voss finished with a 46, while Ty Haguewood shot 49 and Chad Kitchens shot 59.
Lawrence County wins tri-match: Will Dord shot 39 to lead Lawrence County’s Red team in a win at Deer Run.
Lawrence County Red finished with a 163, beating West Morgan (179) and Lawrence County White (185).
Martin Little shot 40 for Lawrence County Red, while Jesse Childress fired 41 and Garrett Prater shot 43.
Dakota Terry led West Morgan with a 41, and Braxton Lemley shot 44. Wyatt Smith shot 47 for the Rebels.
For Lawrence County White, Blake Bohannan shot 44, and Russell Prater shot 45. Cam Liles and Taylor Gibson both shot 48.
Grissom girls 148, Austin 164: Sarah Robertson fired 47 to lead Grissom in a win against Austin.
Callie Herren finished with a 47 to lead Austin, while Sandy Taylor shot 64.
Shoals Christian girls 5, Decatur Heritage 4: The Eagles got two wins in singles and two in doubles, but lost the match to Shoals Christian.
For Decatur Heritage, Abby Tubbs won 8-1 in No. 3 singles, and April Little won 8-3 in No. 5 singles. Tubbs and Ginny Light won 8-1 in No. 2 doubles, while Avery Bowman and Little won 8-1 in No. 3 doubles.
Decatur Heritage boys 5, West Point 4: For Deactur Heritage, Ryan Runager won 10-7 in No. 1 singles, Josh Burgreen won 10-4 in No.3 singles, Austin Markham won 10-6 in No.4 singles and Adam Runager won 10-6 in No. 6 singles.
In No. 2 doubles, Brent King and Burgreen won 10-6 to take the match.
