Justin Smith and Greg Maclin combined for 23 points, leading Tanner High past rival West Limestone 59-42 Thursday night.

Smith finished with 12 points to lead Tanner (2-0), while Greg Maclin tossed in 11. Desmond Love added nine for the Rattlers.

Kyle Casteel paced West Limestone (7-4) with 13 points and Aaron McWilliams added 10.

R.A. Hubbard 60, Shoals Christian 55: The Chiefs outscored Shoals Christian 21-11 in the final quarter to take the win.

Austin Beasley led the Chiefs (2-0) with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Tevin Ray added 12 points, six rebounds and five steals.

Daniel Wood paced Shoals Christian with 16 points. Mitchell Boyd scored 13 points and Will Bishop scored 12.

Sheffield 65, Clements 51: Shaquille Carroll poured in 18 points and Hunter Danley added 17 in Sheffield’s victory.

Clements led 18-13 after the first quarter, but Sheffield outscored the Colts 39-24 in the second and third quarters to take control.

Chris McLemore paced Clements (2-7) with 15 points. Colton Gafford added 12.

Girls basketball

R.A. Hubbard 49, Shoals Christian 40: Alexandria Gholston scored nearly half the Chiefs’ points in a nine-point victory over Shoals Christian.

Gholston scored a game-high 24 points, dished out seven assists and grabbed six rebounds for the Chiefs (2-0), who led 28-15 at the half. Oresha Sherrod chipped in with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Makenzie Gillis scored 16 points and Callie McLaughln added 15 for Shoals Christian.
