CHICAGO — Nearly half of all U.S. children and 90 percent of black youngsters will be on food stamps at some point during childhood, and fallout from the current recession could push those …

We have reached a point in our history where more people draw their existence from the government than work and pay taxes, we are doomed, when people can work and life as we know it is near the end.
Hall
Just because someone is on food stamps doesn't mean they don't work! At one point my husband and I could have qualified for food stamps. He worked as a POLICE OFFICER and I chose to stay home with our two children instead of putting them in daycare. He worked full time, putting his life on the line for others and we qualified for food stamps. We chose not to take advantage of the food stamps because we felt someone else could use it more than us. But the point is he held a full time job and paid taxes. Luckily he found a job that paid more, but not everyone has that luxury.
The Democrats must be thrilled. Everything is going according to their plan..................
key words from joyce...."at one time", people like you are not the problem, the people that are on the doll from the cradle to the grave are, and not just ebt, its section 8 housing, free cell phones, afdc, utility assistance, cloths allowance, free medical care, free perscriptions. im sure im leaving out another twenty thousand a year in "free" goodys. why has the govermant for the last month been claiming the recession was over, now they are saying it is going to get worse, which is it. and why do they keep breaking the numbers down by wheather you are black or white, it should be stated that, 90 per cent of kids will do this, or 49 percent of PEOPLE will do this. all this is quoted from the goverment, while they have told us since the equal rights ammendent that we are all equal. no wonder people are still confused.
Just an entitlement mentality that has been perpetuated by the government by giving more and more "mailbox money" for nothing in return. The aid should be temporary until people can get back on their feet, but the government likes to keep people depending on them. It is a control tactic. At some point, and we may be getting close to that point, the people "taking" will outnumber the people "giving" and then what? All the rich politicians gonna take care of everyone? I wouldn't hold my breath.
I find it sickening that the people of this country want to have their freedoms taking away. Don't you liberals understand the more you have depending on the government the more freedoms you lose????
I want to start by saying some people really need food stamps. Some people fall on hard times and need our help, but it galls me to know end to see certain people taking food stamps and welfare. I worked as a cashier in a grocery store as a teen. Very different people would come in with food stamps. You could automatically tell the famililes that really needed them. The children were dressed in slightly used clothing, they bought the cheapest generic food items, and they didn't spend money on anything they didn't need. You could also automatically tell the ones that were abusing the system. Those children and parents were walking around in Hilfiger, American Eagle, FUBU, Guess, and whatever name brand clothing was the latest fashion. They would be sporting $100 sneakers, gold watches, rings, necklaces, carrying purses by Dooney and Burke (or any other $125+ manufacturer), and driving around in a very new vehicle. They would pull out a wallet with quite a bit of loose cash in it, then hand you the food stamps. It is an outrage! You would see the same families on food stamps, giving birth every year to another mouth for us to feed. I am so sick of it!
The article says 28.4 million Americans receive food stamps. It also says a family of four has to make less than $22,000. So, 28.4 million persons divided by 4 people in a household, gives us 7,100,000 families receiving benefits. That is just a rough estimate, by the way. The average family, quoted in the article, receives $222 per month. That comes to a total of $1,567,200,000! HELLLOOO, that is $1.5 BILLION A MONTH! There is where our money is going. I agree with Smiley, government aid should be temporary. It should come with restrictions. Restrictions that are actually monitored. If you are on welfare, you should be required to use some form of birth control. If you get pregnant, that child should not be provided for. If you can't afford the children you have, you certainly have no business having more for me to take care of. It should be obvious that a person driving a $35,000 - $50,000 car does not require government assistance. It just makes me sick that people "work" the system. There are way too many people, like me and my family, who work hard for everything we have. We teach our children to work hard and to earn what you get, but there are so many out there who don't. There are so many that choose to pass along to their kids, the way to get everything for free. I wish these people would be a little more concerned about their neighbors and their brothers and sisters from God, who are doing without or their children don't have as much, because they are footing the bill for everyone else. Let me end by saying, there are some people out there who genuinely need assistance and only use it if necessary, but there are so many more who don't fall in that category!
R, the sad part is that there are 3rd generations learning to live this way and it will keep going as long as the government allows this abuse of the system. People need to be accountable. Granted, there are some people that need to be taken care of. It's the abusers that need to eliminated from the waste. I should not drive by government subsidized housing and see satellite dishes in the yard or people waxing their low riders with the stereo booming.
And Jesus said to them, go get a job for there is nothing here for you. You must help yourself. If you are hungry go eat, oh, there ain't nothing there eat air. Republicans be blessed because you have the answer, NO.
What Jesus did not say that?
Bubba
90% Black children on food stamps and every other entitlement program there is. 40+ years of the same education and opportunites as so called white society. How long does is take for a race to make it on their own?
When in Utopia, do as the Utopians do: Nothing. All manner of needs and goods are provided free of charge to everyone. No one is expected to work and produce. Everything(food, clothing, housing, cars, newspapers, cell phones, tv's, etc) miraculously appear without any effort of the people to make them or pay for them. Everyone gets an equal amount, regardless of stature or position.
Jesus did say "the poor you will always have with you". They do need to be taken care of, I agree. There are legitimate ministries that take care of the basic needs of the people that are deserving. They are supported by people that volunteer their time and money because they want too, not because the government said they know better how to do it.
Jesus did NOT say anything about the freeloaders, at least I cannot find it in the KJV if he did.
Amen, Bubba.
It is a shame that the haves continue to bad-mouth the less fortunate, ignoring what our Lord and Savior commanded. If the haves would do as we are commanded, there would be no need for government subsidy.
If a CEO would take $24 million a year instead of $25 million, his company could employ 30 more people at a comfortable, above-poverty level income. That's a swing of 60 people (30 more contributing to the economy and 30 fewer receiving public assitance). Just think what could be done if the CEO made a modest $5 million a year (and thithed on it).
Do you really think people CHOOSE to be unemployed?
BTW, mythbuster, you forgot to mention social security and medicare. Hope you're not one of the people on those "doles."
In the book of James, black children have the same opportunity as white children. What? In Alabama? Really?
Bubba
Smiley, Jesus did not say anything about freeloading he just said to give and not judge. If the Church would do what Jesus intended they would be full every day with people helping people. Ever notice how empty they are except for a school, daycare or some such thing. All which charge a fee. Oh, how many black are in there??
Bubba just wondering what would Jesus do?
Bubba, you are correct. If there were enough Church people doing it, the government wouldn't have too. But, it's it appears to be easier to let someone else(government) do it. FYI, I get to give both ways, through my Church service and offerings, and through my paycheck with-holdings. I have no problem helping those that need it and gladly do it. But I have eyes to see and ears to hear those that take advantage of the system and take from those that REALLY need it. I'm glad you guys don't have any issues. I'd go along with cutting CEO's pay along with the "prefessional" atheletes making $40 million a year to play a game.
I am a little confused as to where Bubba stands on this issue. Are you for the freeloaders? Do you want us to continue to give to them and not judge? Or, are you against continuing to dish out money and supplies to people who are just too lazy to get a job? Your posts are a little vague to me. If it is the first scenario, then by all means, hand your check over to the government. Don't ask where your money is going, just be happy thinking that you are taking care of God's creatures. If it is the second scenario, then quit picking at the Republicans. I am a Republican. I am all for helping those in need. I am all for giving at my church, donating my time and money, and for helping those truly in need. What I detest is people that have figured out a legal way to work the system to their advantage. I don't want to live my life like that and I don't want to teach my children to do so either. I personally know of a family that has more than plenty for themselves. The mother had 5 children, each by different fathers. She then married a veteran. After going to NUMEROUS doctors, to find 1 who would claim him disabled, she got him on full disability. Let me just say that only 1 doctor would claim him disabled. The rest were certain he was fit to hold some kind of job. After receiving his disability benefits, she proceeded to "adopt" quite a few of her grandchildren, just so they could receive the same benefits. Those children DO NOT live with her. She does not physically take care of them. They all live with their parents, but she receives a check for each of them! Now, how do you feel about getting a handout from the government? None of the members of that family are living in poverty. None of them were going without or were needy.
R, and so the system continues. Teach a child in the way they should go, huh? They learn by what their parents and grandparents do, so as the family gets to the 3rd and 4th generations living this way, they are well trained in the ways to take advantage of the system. Again, before any of you jump on me, I am all for helping people that need the help. Not a problem. It's the freeloaders. I'm not judging them, I am just observing what I can see for myself. I prefer not to subsidize those that are stealing, which is what they are doing. Government aid should be temporary and not a lifestyle.
if you are not for STOPPING the ABUSE of the system, then you have no choice but to be FOR KEEPING the FRAUD and, THEFT as it is. and this is a black or white decision, FOR..........AGAINST.
i cant see any middle ground on this issue.
R, have you reported this case to DHR with a followup to the Federal offices, like FBI, or Social Security. I think the Veterans affairs office would love to know about this. If not why not? The abuse that bothers me most is the children.
Jesus said to forgive those who betray your trust. Take that for what you will. Jesus was inclusive not exclusive. Let all come unto him. It is funny how we can forgive a murder but not a lessor sinner.
Bubba ain't quoting but just saying
mythbuster: It isn't black or white. Yes, there are people who abuse the system. But there are also many who, through no fault of their own, need assistance. The story reports that many more are in need of help because of the recession, and the sociologist quoted says it is an indication that more is needed, not less.
Have a little compassion and don't judge cases when you have no specific information.
I'd be in favor for a law that requires a drug test before any government benefits are given away. I bet that 49% number would drop.
Dear Thomas, I am sure your family is very proud of you. According to DHR there are 250 families receiving assistance in Morgan county most of whom are children. So yes lets drug test the little buggers.
Bubba shakes his head in wonderment.
Yes Bubba, my family is proud of me. I worked 10 hours today in a business I built from the ground up. But it really irritates me to come home and read about free loaders who are going to steal five to six hours of my labor today. I think I would be better off if I could give that money to MY kids instead of some stranger.
And yes, Bubba, I have no problems telling the welfare crowd that if they do want taxpayer assistance, they must give up the drugs, cigarettes, and alcohol. Wouldn't those "little buggers" be better off with sober parents?
Watching FOX News tonight and I am glad to see the Democrats are getting their butts kicked in today's elections.
Tommy you are smarter than that if you run our own business. What happened to you to make you dislike people so much? But question how can people steal 5 to 6 hours of your hard work. You need to look into some tax help. If that's what you mean. My tax person works in Hartselle. They help me pay only my fair share. Which is a lot but I make a lot. USA is great.
So you want to protect individual rights til you see something you don't like. Cigarettes are harmful to children how? Did your family smoke? Oh, do you support states rights? How do you like the changes downtown in Hartselle and did you vote for it?
I know you love FOX and hate everyone except right wing nuts.
Bubba
apparently some people don't read the entire post from others. If you did, you'd see that most of the people opposed to the fraudulent claims are also FOR helping those that really need it. When you have people that make it their living to accept subsidized food, housing, whatever, then there is a problem with the system. The kids learn that and make it their way of life to get something for nothing. Cycle continues. Again, granted there are those that need the help, but it should be temporary and NOT a way of life. People need to be accountable. If it was a legitimate way of life, then we all should be doing it, right?
