Take your gun to work if bill pushed by Bedford passes

MONTGOMERY (AP) — An Alabama lawmaker is again pushing legislation that would let employees take handguns to work.

The Montgomery Advertiser reported today that state Sen. Roger Bedford, D-Russellville, said the bill is aimed at increasing personal safety.

"I think it's necessary so people will have peace of mind when they're traveling to and from work," he said.

A similar bill has been introduced twice before, but it failed despite support from the National Rifle Association.

The Business Council of Alabama opposes the measure, said President Bill Canary.

"At a time when the business community in all sectors should be focused on creating jobs, we instead are dealing with this unnecessary legislation which erodes the constitutional property rights of businesses," Canary said in a statement. "Alabama businesses are already struggling with burdensome regulations that impact productivity and increase costs."

The bill would prevent most employers from barring workers from transporting and storing firearms at work. Employees who bring weapons to work would be required to keep their guns locked up and out of sight.

Bedford said the law would not apply to school campuses, and weapons wouldn't be allowed anywhere they are already barred by federal law.

The lawmaker said he does not expect any dangers to arise in the workplace if the proposed legislation is signed into law.

"If someone's that crazy, hopefully the sheriff didn't give a pistol permit in the first place," he said.

this would be another good detterent for the loonies in this world , this is not 1977 anymore you never know what entitlement moron is going to attack you or try to rob you and everyone around you or where , have been alarmed many times by Irate people dealing with the public , they are crazy

Well said bone. By the way, we have a Constitutional right to bear arms. I certainly understand leaving it locked in the car while at work. We better learn to fight for our Constitutional rights. We are losing them.

We are not going to be able to fight for our constitutional rights after they (by they I mean bleeding heart liberals)have completely taken our weapons or made it impossible to get ammunition for them. When are these idiots going to learn that the criminal society isn't bothered by these laws and in some cases descent citizens not having means of protection is a great big bonus to them.

What good is your gun locked in your car if you are attacked at work? If someone came in my office a starting shooting, I would not be able to protect myself with my gun in the car!

Lets see which side the Alabama Republicans are on......The Business Council of Alabama or the National Rifle Association.

What the hell good is a gun if it's locked up and you need it in a hurry?

It will be there if you need it on your way to and from work. If you have car trouble or you stop by somewhere else on your way home and some idiot threatens your life. It will do no good at home!

Ah, but when watching coverage of this on Fox News 2 days ago, the news babe said, "Critics of the bill say this is no time to be worrying about Constitutional rights with so many people out of work." That is the scariest damn thing I have ever heard. Let's not worry about those pesky Constitutional rights. Who needs 'em? Right?? Jeeeezus.

I see having a gun locked in a car out side the work place.... NO to guns inside the work place, you never know who is a unstable person.... my mind goes to the Amy Bishop.... a true nut,

with a gun in the workplace..
