BIRMINGHAM – Tanner’s Cinderella run through the postseason came to an abrupt halt Tuesday morning at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Complex.

Spoiling the run was No. 2 and unbeaten Prattville Christian Academy, which raced to a big lead and coasted to a 52-31 victory over the Rattlers.

Tanner entered the postseason with a losing record but knocked off a pair of Top 10 teams on the way to a surprising berth in the Class 2A Final Four. But a slew of missed shots and turnovers in the first half put the Rattlers in a 31-8 deficit from which they could not recover.

Tanner got as close as 15 points in the fourth quarter but Kristen Emerson scored on a putback off a missed free throw and on a nice pick-and-roll layup on the next possession to push the margin to 40-20 with five minutes to play.

Emerson, a 6-foot-1 post player who also is Prattville Christian’s best ball handler, once again starred for the Panthers (34-0) with 30 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.

Kelsey Houston topped Tanner (15-17) with 10 points.
