The GOP needs real change
U.S. automakers of a past generation were known for sticking a new grill on an old car and calling it a new model. While the vehicle may have looked slightly different, the changes were only … More »

I get it, we could loose our values that this country was founded on and simply have one party! We could all simply give up and join the ranks of those that rely on the federal government to care for us. We could let the government tell us where to live, where to work along with telling us what we can enjoy in our spare time should be have any. We could just model ourselves to be like our closest friend, China.

We all must constantly change and sometimes that means compromising on a few issues to win more important ones. Some say few members of any religion agree totally with every belief of that religion. They stay there because they believe the majority of

its tenits. Same with a party' if I want the benefits of power which come from a successful candidate I must be willing to give up some of my petti beliefs to get it. The Republican Party found that divide and conquor did not work. Unify and win is the right formula and it worked for The Democrats. I can rant all I like but when I look at the margin of defeat in this election of 102 electorial votes I gotta start thinking, give a little.

If victory for the GOP means becoming indistinguishable from the Democrat party, I say "no thanks." Conservative principles shouldn't be compromised in order to draw support from any specific group of people. If they believe their interests are best served by the Liberals moving this country to ruin, so be it. They will reap what they sow.

maybe, clifton, but i doubt it. do you think your conservative ideology is superior Still? voters don't. we have seen through the sham of trickle down economics that has served only to enrich the 1% while impoverishing everyone else.

the daily is right. without compromise on some of your more inane and offensive policies that you seem to hold as sacrosanct, the GOP will go the way of the Whigs and fade into irrelevance. i say good riddance.

Yes, James, I still believe conservative values (smaller government, adherence to the Constitution, expecting citizens to take responsibility for themselves) are "superior". The results of the election don't change that. It's hard to beat a candidate who promotes wealth envy and is a Santa Claus figure to millions of people who think the government is the solution to all their problems. We get the kind of government we deserve, and right now the American voter has the kind of government they deserve. Enjoy it. The well will eventually run dry.

we basically already have 1 party & until people wake up and see that we are doomed! open your eyes people

The arrogance of the GOP is immeasurable and has alienated "minorities" (including women) possibly to the point of no return. Instead of accepting defeat and beginning to evaluate what they can do better or different next time, they choose to list what they believe Obama and/or the Democrats did to "buy" votes.

If my children were to lose a contest and begin to bad mouth the winner instead of evaluate their own approach, they would be grounded. In our home, we expect them to support the winner and know that, next time, they should work harder to win. This whining and complaining about the loss is not rooted in "conservative" or "old-fashioned" values, but it is exactly what the majority of Americans expects from the GOP - claim one thing, but act in a completely different manner. THIS is one of the reasons they lost the election.

S., please list how the GOP has alienated minorities.

@ Clifton. I'll name one Clif, at the ballot box!

Typical nonsense comment, Joe.

Does anyone really believe Decatur Daily wrote this editorial with hopes they could help Republicans win?

Would we listen to the devil tell us how to run a church?

well it already appears you choose to listen to the congress-devils tell you how to vote! THINK thomas! your party sucks! make it better! that is the issue here. or you could just keep whining and fading into irrelevance. whatever, i dont care really.

James must be an entitlement citizen... Yes, our conservative ideology is superior. Ask Italy, Germany and the former USSR about thier socialistic governments.

Carcarol must be an old white lady. I can't wait til your generation is outvoted in elections by those with some empathy and intelligence. Oops, that day is here nationally.

I believe in the tenets set forth by our Founding Fathers in that remarkable document we know as the Constitution of the United States of America. I believe in hard work, saving for my retirement and helping the less fortunate. I believe in defending our freedom, even going to war if that is necessary, but not wars by "choice" instead of necessity. I believe in the "Right to bear arms" and protect myself and family if our lives are being threatened. I believe in God.

I think the overwhelming majority of Americans are good folks.

I voted republican for president from the time I became old enough to vote until 2000. Then, I noticed that the republican party I had known and believed represented my views had changed, dramatically.

Until The Republican Party disavows the ideas of Karl Rove, Grover Norquist, The National Review, Charless Krauthammer, Rush Limbaugh, Fox News and all such other extreme right wing influences and "finds itself", I will remain an Independent.

I voted for President Obama because he has the US of A headed in the right direction. He wants everyone to enjoy the "American Dream." Not just the 2 or 3% at the top.

James=just another liberal sheep

I like what you say Clifton. And besides, who is gonna vote against Santa Clause? Obama won on the promise of taking from people who have more and giving to people who have less. The problem is, he'll soon run out of other peoples money, China will cut him off and we will fall.

CAROL= ignorant whitebread redneck content to vote against her own interest and fade into irrelevance. good riddance.

Well said James and Gina!
