The skinny: The first playoff game ever at R.A. Hubbard’s new stadium. This is a rematch of last year’s first-round playoff game as Marion County began its march to the 2011 state championship. … R.A. Hubbard scored 18 unanswered points in the second half last week to open the playoffs with an 18-15 win at Collinsville. John Owens ran for 153 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Chiefs. … Marion County finished the season ranked No. 3 in the state. The Red Raiders beat Meek 83-6 in the first round. … Marion County leads the all-time series 1-0.

The skinny: This is an early-round showdown between two state powers. Tanner has been the No. 1 team in Class 2A for most of the season, and Wellborn is the ninth-ranked team. … The Rattlers scored on their first seven possessions and eight of their 10 total drives to trounce Sand Rock 55-0 in the first round. Hayden Stephens rushed for 104 yards and four touchdowns, and Fred Rich had 81 yards and two scores on the ground. Jonathon Fletcher completed six of seven passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns.

The Rattlers are averaging almost 51 points a game. … Sophomore fullback Landon Machristie rushed for 221 yards and three touchdowns and had 248 yards in total offense to lead Walter Wellborn to a 54-26 first-round victory over Horseshoe Bend.

The skinny: Defending state champion Hartselle will not have an easy road if the Tigers are to defend their title. After upsetting No. 2 Fort Payne last week, the Tigers face 10th-ranked Wenonah in the second round. … Quarterback Deacon Aldridge ran for 116 yards and score and passed for 105 and a touchdown to lead the Tigers to the 14-8 upset at Fort Payne. The Hartselle defense also stymied the high-powered Wildcat offense. … The Dragons have given up just 60 points and posted five shutouts this season after a 30-0 blanking of Center Point in the opening round.
