Turkey federation banquet Thursday

The Morgan County Gobblers of the National Wild Turkey Federation will host its 11th annual Hunting Heritage Banquet at the Central Park Baptist Church outback building Thursday.

The local federation will be honoring a local scholarship winner along with the NWTF endowment award to the Decatur Heritage shooting team.

Sponsor tables are $500 and $1,000. Other sponsorships are available for $265. The money is tax deductible.

The money raised will allow the NWTF to continue its mission to conserve wild turkeys and preserve a tradition many of us consider sacred, America’s Hunting Heritage.

Baseball

  • The Athens Post 49 American Legion baseball team will have meetings March 17 for 15-and-under age groups and April 28 for high school players. For more information, call Gerry Story at 246-230-9319 or 256-431-2571.

  • Organizational Cashin Wheeler Little League baseball meetings will be Thursdays at 6 p.m. at the Carrie Matthews Recreation Center. All interested coaches, umpires and parents need to attend.

  • Decatur National Youth Baseball League is hosting Family Fun Night at Point Mallard baseball fields April 5 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The opening day parade will be April 6 and will feature a fire truck, American Legion Honor Guard and American Legion motorcyclists will accompany teams from the youth league.

Basketball

  • The inaugural Elite Shootout Basketball Tournament will be March 16 in Florence.

The cost is $125 per team with an eight-team minimum. Each team is guaranteed to play at least two games.

Team members must be at least 17 years old.

To enter, call 256-762-5183. Proceeds benefit the Florence Boys and Girls basketball programs.

Football

  • The North Alabama Auburn Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday at The Brick Deli, 112 East Moulton St.

Bryan Matthews, who covers recruiting for the website Auburn.247sports.com, will speak. Donations of $10 will be taken at the door, and proceeds benefit a scholarship fund to local students attending Auburn.

Golf

  • The West Morgan Baseball Booster Golf Tournament is Saturday at 8 a.m. at Cedar Ridge Golf Course in Decatur. Entry fee for the four-person team event is $240 a team.

  • Mount View Baptist Church will host a two-player scramble golf tournament April 13 at Deer Run Golf Course in Moulton.

Entry fee is $100 and includes lunch and cart.

Cash prizes go to the top three spots in each flight.

Proceeds benefit the Mount View Baptist Missions Fund.

  • The Decatur Excellence in Leadership class golf tournament benefiting PACT-FACT is set for April 19 at the Point Mallard Golf Course.

The cost for four-golfer teams is $350. Sponsorships also are available.

  • The Hartselle Quarterback Club and the Hartselle Golf Booster Club will host the inaugural Sittason-Cain Memorial Golf Tournament on April 22 at Burningtree Country Club in Decatur.

The tournament format is a four-person scramble with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.

Lunch will be provided at noon. Each player in this tournament will receive an award.

Prizes will be available for longest drive on one hole, closest to the pin on four holes, and hole-in-one on two holes.

The entry fee is $400 per team and includes range balls, green fees, cart, lunch and a chance at door prizes.

Running

  • The second annual Celebrating Life 5K and Remembrance Mile is set for Decatur on April 20.

The 5K race begins at 8 a.m. and mile walk begins at 9:15 a.m.

Proceeds benefit the Community Bereavement Center of Hospice of the Valley.

Registration includes one recognition marker to be displayed in the Memory Garden during the event.

Early registration fees are $25 per adult, $20 per student for the 5K and $10 per person for the Remembrance Mile.

Registrations received after April 18 are $5 more.

Softball

  • Decatur Parks and Recreation is accepting teams for the summer adult slow pitch softball leagues.

Games, which will be played at the Wilson Morgan softball complex, are for leagues consisting of men’s and women’s independents, men’s and women’s church, men’s industrial and co-ed.

League fees are $475, if paid by Monday. The fees paid from Monday to March 11 are $525 per team. The seasons will begin April 15.
