FLORENCE — Leo III and Una have brought home national recognition to the University of North Alabama.
The mascots for the university were recently named the top live animal mascot in college football by the website, totalprosports.com.
Leo and Una, the two 9-year-old African lions that make their home in the George H. Carroll lion habitat near the Harrison Plaza at UNA, were the only non-Division I mascot honored by the publication.
The lions beat out the tigers and bears for the top honor. Mike VI of LSU and TOM of the University of Memphis, both tigers, and Judge Sue “Lady” Sloane of the Baylor bears finished second through fourth, respectively.
