Decatur has way to much crime for young people to even consider raising a family here. And as Kyle stated - he has done this job before - Kyle if you had done such a wonderful job tell me again why we voted you OUT?
It really is time for a clean sheet in the Mayoral office. Cole is an intelligent and capable candidate and I believe will give Decatur the direction it needs to over come the past twelve years of governmental mistakes. Terry will only enhance this effort as Cole well knows.
Kyle has changed his tune. I don't believe him. He thinks he knows more than Wally Terry. Kyle is not an option for me.
Nothing against Terry, but,we need a mayor that can do his job and not require an assistant at $100,000 a year.
We need Cole for mayor. He is the only refreshing choice on the ticket. All the others are business as usual and they have had their chance. He can utilize Terry and get us back on track. You want young families and young professionals? How about a young professional for mayor!
@Jimmy,Mayor Kyle did a fine job and if memory serves me correctly Don Kyle won every voting precinct in Decatur ,but one ,and narrowly lost that one as well .FYI
I voted for Staford in the last election and have been severely dissappointed. Wally has done an excellent job uniting the city. He is an outstanding leader and has the ability to get everyone working for a common goal. I like Cole's plan for utilizing Wally's talents and will vote for him in the next election!.
Decatur does not need a city manager (dictator). They need a mayor that is a leader and can do their job!
I guess Welll..... can not read, he is over three departments, not the mayors assistant.
DECATUR from Decatur must be Don Stanford,Don Kyle or a councilman. He sounds just like one. The people voted. They said they wanted a city manager. It is a Dictator that ignores the will of the majority of the people.
"Terry came to City Hall 2½ years ago under controversial circumstances, starting as an assistant to Mayor Don Stanford before being placed in his current role, where he makes $104,000 annually. Although Terry’s hiring was the brainchild of the City Council to assist the mayor in day-to-day operations, Stanford now considers him an asset"
I guess L can't read.............
And William is right. How could the council have the legal right to pull the city manager application to the DOJ?BTW,I voted against a city manager.
Uh, I KNEW that in 4 years people would forget!! Kyle was NOT a great Mayor. If he was he would not have been beat by a DON STANFORD in the FIRST PLACE.
William, I am an average citizen that expects people to do the job they were hired to do, just like my employer expects me to do the job I was hired to do. Decatur can thank Billy Jackson for its current political state. The only one of the Fantastic Four that I can say for sure that will not get my vote is Gail Busbey.
Like I said well..... he is not working in the same job he came in on. Again, you proved you can not read.

L, Terry was hired at the same salary he is making now.I remember because it was such a big stink about Standford needing a $100,000 assistant to do his job.He may have a new title but he's still doing the mayor's job of promoting community and economic growth of Decatur. He should have run for mayor.Probably would have made a good one.But he didn't and we need someone to do the mayors job without an extra big money employee.Nuff said.Have a nice day.
He is a department head. Community development, planning, and building. Nuffield said!
it is truly Wally's town. He loses his job then the town says let me give you a six figure job sir. He provides a good service and now has all the candidates running for mayor bowing at his feet. Why run for mayor when you can be the boss?
why the hell would Wally want to run for mayor and put up with all this crap when he can stay in the same job with about the same salary as the mayor and not have to put up with all the idiots here. ?
At the risk of offending the "don't confuse me with the facts, my mind is already made up" set: In 2008 The Decatur Daily and Councilman Jackson mobilized against Don Kyle. Poof, Stanford wins by a little over 300 votes. Enter Stanford and infighting resulting in the Council hiring Terry to cover the shortcomings. Then comes The Decatur Daily fanning the flames for a referendum. Poof again, and we are to get a city council hired "City Manager" not directly accountable to voters. Now The Decatur Daily, The Chamber of Commerce and one candidate in particular have elevated Mr. Terry to an "anointed" status with a predetermined appointment to the City Manager job. Conclusion: What we have is the two main infighters continuing their feud; an unseasoned, historically progressive lawyer extending the "Hope and Change" mantra to us; and last, Don Kyle, the one deeply experienced adult in the race who will propel us forward, once again. Whoever we elect will have to deal with conversion to Council/Manager government within the law. Vote for the adult and let's get going again.
Without Wally city hall would be lost.
good call Kenneth.
Yes, Kenneth nailed it. How soon people forget.
