Contractor Cole Reagin operates a dedicated forestry mulcher as work to clear the underbrush along the trail at Point Mallard continues on Wednesday. The trail has been closed to the public since the clearing started, but Reagin said that some people don’t care and still walk on the trail. “We have to stop every time we see someone coming because the debris (can) fly up to 60-70 yards, and whoever is operating the mulcher has very little visibility.” He also said that most likely the trail will reopen by Saturday because that’s when the Running for Rick 5K will take place. The run is a charity event to help raise money for Parkinson's research in honor of Rick Doke, a cross-country coach and teacher in Decatur City Schools. [JERONIMO NISA/DECATUR DAILY]
