MOULTON — The Lawrence County Board of Education on Monday night non-renewed the contract of a Hatton High history teacher, bringing to six the number of teachers who didn’t receive new contracts.

Superintendent Jon Bret Smith said the district will likely fill at least three of the positions.

“Right now, I don’t think we have any more teachers that will not get new contracts,” he said.

The school system has until June 15 to make decisions about first- and second-year employees, but teachers set to gain tenure must be notified one day before the last day of school, which is Friday for Lawrence County.

The teacher Lawrence County voted to non-renew Monday was Brandi Logston. All personnel matters require a recommendation from the superintendent and a majority board vote.
