MOULTON — The suspended Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department chief of staff, Capt. Tim McWhorter, has been fired, Sheriff Gene Mitchell said today.

“I dismissed him this morning,” Mitchell told The Daily.

The firing came less than 24 hours after McWhorter was charged with domestic violence and third-degree harassment involving a Southwest Decatur woman on Dec. 8, Decatur police records show. The charges are misdemeanors. He was booked into the Morgan County Jail on Thursday and released on $500 bail.

In a written statement, McWhorter, 38, denied any wrongdoing.
