Authorities have identified a possible drowning victim at Wheeler Lake as 56-year-old Derek Lane of Athens.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Marine Patrol Troopers, involved since the beginning of the search and recovery effort, released the name this afternoon, according to the Limestone County Sheriff's Office.

Due to weather and water conditions, recovery efforts were suspended this afternoon and were to resume Thursday morning.

The incident was reported to have occurred in the 9000 block of Motter Drive.

The victim reportedly either jumped or fell out of a boat Tuesday night as it was nearing the dock, the office said earlier today.

The Morgan County Rescue Squad's dive team responded to assist in the effort, said Chief Danny Kelso.

The Rogersville Volunteer Fire Department is also assisting, according to the sheriff's office.
