Three candidates have announced their intentions to run for Morgan County District Judge Place 3, replacing Judge Charles Langham. State law prohibits Langham from running for re-election.

Decatur City Prosecutor Emily Baggett, and Decatur private attorneys Kevin Kusta and Ta’Kisha Guster Gholston have each launched campaigns for the vacancy when Langham’s six-year term concludes Jan. 17, 2021.

Morgan County Probate Judge Greg Cain said Alabama law states no one older than 70 can be appointed or elected to the bench.

Cain said qualifying will be set by party executive committees and will likely be in late October or early November.

Primary elections are scheduled for March 3, 2020, and the general election is Nov. 3, 2020.
