Local drug investigators descended on a Decatur apartment Thursday, seizing cocaine and drug-sale paraphernalia, and arrested a man on drug trafficking charges, police said.
Authorities also arrested three other people during the raid, including the apartment’s resident, Precious Renea Harper, said Kirk Arrington, Decatur police Organized Crime Unit investigator.
Decatur police and Morgan County Drug Task Force agents along with a Decatur K-9 Unit executed the search warrant at 1421 Brookline Ave. S.W., Apartment B, he said.
Arrington said that as authorities approached the apartment, Cedric Orinthia Hamilton, 35, was getting into his vehicle to leave. Police detained him and searched his vehicle. Investigators said they found cocaine inside.
Authorities moved on to the apartment and detained Harper, 25, Leon Tremayne Teague, 33, and a 50-year-old Decatur woman as they searched the residence, Arrington said. Agents discovered a large amount of cocaine, prescription medication, and drug-use and drug-sale paraphernalia, Arrington said.
Police charged Teague of 607 14th Ave. S.W., Decatur, with trafficking in cocaine, tampering with physical evidence, resisting arrest and failure to pay for a driving while revoked charge. Harper and Hamilton of 2310 Hamilton Drive S.W. were charged with possession of a controlled substance, he said. Harper and the 50-year-old woman were also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police took all four to Decatur City Jail, and the 50-year-old woman was released on $500 bail. Teague, Hamilton and Harper were transferred to Morgan County Jail, where Hamilton and Harper were later released on $2,500 and $3,000 bail respectively. Teague remained in custody in lieu of $6,000 bail.
