A 41-year-old Madison County man was killed and three people were injured Sunday morning after a single-car wreck in the northbound lanes of I-65 at the south end of the Tennessee River bridge, authorities said.
Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn said he pronounced Romeo Antonio Gabriel Cash dead at the scene. Authorities previously said they thought Cash was a Tennessee resident.
Two of the car's occupants were taken to Decatur Morgan Hospital with minor injuries and a third occupant was transported to Huntsville Hospital with a leg injury, according to Decatur police spokeswoman Irene Cardenas-Martinez.
Decatur police said its officers responded to a report of the accident about 3:30 a.m. Sunday and found a vehicle had left the roadway and struck a guardrail.
“One occupant was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene,” police said in a news release.
Police have not said who was driving the car.
Northbound lanes of I-65 were temporarily closed and traffic was rerouted following the accident. The lanes had reopened by noon Sunday.
