The suspect in the shooting at the Point Mallard Aquatic Center on Saturday night is free on bail, according to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.

Public Information Officer Mike Swafford said Kaleb D’Vante Lane Jones, 18, 1702 Dianne St. S.W., Decatur, was released from the Morgan County Jail at 9 p.m. Tuesday on a $60,000 bond posted by Pronto Bail Bonding Co. of Decatur.

Jones, a 2019 graduate of Austin High School, is charged with two felony counts of second-degree assault, after allegedly firing a single shot that injured two minors at the park prior to a fireworks show just after 9 p.m. Saturday, according to Decatur police. The two minors were treated for non-life threatening injuries and released from area hospitals, a police spokeswoman said.

Sam Cat

I believe he was charged with 2 counts of 2nd degree assault. In addition, he should be charged with disturbing the peace, unlawful possession of a firearm, inciting a riot and child endangerment.

Fed Up

If found guilty, he should be charged with much more. He shot a gun into a packed public area. This area was filled with families and young children. The result was pandemonium, chaos, and a lot of fear. Why did he even have a weapon to begin with?
