A Morgan County Jail inmate is facing additional charges of first-degree identity theft following an investigation by Decatur police, authorities said Wednesday.

Jeremy Dewayne Floyd, 37, is accused of using someone else’s identity to obtain internet services and open several bank accounts in the victim’s name. Police said the victim, a Decatur resident, reported the ID theft in February.

Decatur police discovered Floyd was incarcerated in the county jail on unrelated charges.

Decatur police presented the case to a Morgan County grand jury, who issued an indictment for Floyd’s arrest.

Bail on Floyd’s new charge is $20,000.

According to jail records, Floyd was in jail on drug and theft charges and probation revocations.
