The body of a Decatur man was found floating in the Tennessee River near Ingalls Harbor on Saturday afternoon.

The Morgan County coroner declared Stephen Forrest Johnson, 59, dead at the scene.

Morgan County 911 received a call at 1:55 p.m. reporting an unoccupied fishing boat tied to a barge mooring dock near the railroad bridge. The Morgan County Rescue Squad responded to the call.

"As soon as they got in front of Ingalls Harbor they spotted an adult male floating in the river," according to a statement released by the Rescue Squad.

Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn said the body was sent to the Alabama Forensics Department for an autopsy.

"It was either a medical incident or he somehow fell overboard and drowned," Chunn said this morning.

Chunn said the boat Johnson had occupied had its trolling motor down.

Wearing your Lifejacket, boarding ladder on aft of boat to re-board if you fall in, cold water fishing awareness, weather awareness for rough water, right clothing, other boat traffic and just common sense help keep us fishermen & duck hunters alive when out on the water...
