MONTGOMERY (AP) — State Rep. Lesley Vance of Phenix City has died after an extended illness.

Alabama House of Representatives spokesman Clay Redden said Vance died today. He was 76.

Vance was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in 1994. He switched to the Republican Party in 2010.

He was the owner of Vance Memorial Chapel and served as Russell County coroner for 27 years. He was also a member of the Russell County Commission for two years.

Have knowed Lesley for a long time, I was raised in phenix ,Vance was a very nice man and worked hard for phenix city, but he had to switch ,all his friends knew why his heart was always a democrat.
