FALKVILLE — Falkville fell behind early and never overcame the deficit as the Blue Devils lost to Reeltown 33-13 Friday in the first round of the Class 2A state playoffs.

Falkville's Aaron Dove threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Allen Vinson, and Hunter Shelnutt added a 75-yard kickoff return for the Blue Devils' other score.

Austin Fowler and James Garner each recovered a Reeltown fumble.

Falkville coach Joel Schrenk applauded his team for overcoming a 1-3 start to reach the playoffs and finish 7-4.

"We didn't start well, but we finished well," Schrenk said. "We won six in a row at the end of the year."

Trakevon Hughley rushed for two touchdowns and recovered a fumble for Reeltown (7-4). Eric Shaw had a 53-yard interception for a touchdown, a 7-yard scoring catch and a reception for a 2-point conversion.

Logan Hunt threw a touchdown pass and Ra Jerrian Wright had a touchdown run and a fumble recovery.

Shaw's interception return put Reeltown ahead 6-0 with 6:34 left in the first quarter. Hughley tacked on a 7-yard rushing score at the 10:57 mark of the second period.

Falkville got on the scoreboard with 23 seconds left in the first half on Dove's touchdown pass to Vinson.

Reeltown scored 20 unanswered points to take a 33-7 lead, capped by Wright's 1-yard run with 5:04 remaining in regulation

Shelnutt returned the ensuing kickoff 75 yards with 4:46 left in the game.

"We got better every week," Schrenk added. "We got better tonight. We just ran into a really good football team."

Reeltown will host Sulligent next week in the second round.
