One of the amazing stories in The Decatur Daily’s coverage area is the wealth of talent in softball and baseball.

This year’s All-State selections by the Alabama Sports Writers Association prove it. The list includes 24 softball players and 16 baseball players from this area.

Nine local softball players made first-team All-State. Five are from Morgan County. They are Hartselle senior outfielder Kylie Winton, Brewer senior catcher Madisen Adams, Priceville sophomore catcher Reagan Walter, Priceville senior outfielder Destinee Hargrove and Danville junior Emma Broadfoot as a designated hitter.

The other first-team selections are Hatton senior infielder Emma Latham, Hatton junior pitcher Ashley Berryman, Ardmore junior pitcher Sydney Hall and Elkmont junior infielder Haven Kirby.

Two area baseball players made first-team All-State. They are Decatur Heritage outfielder Carter Sample and Athens Bible catcher/pitcher Cade Abernathy as a utility player.

In softball, Hatton’s Berryman is the Class 2A Pitcher of the Year. Berryman and Latham have two more teammates on the second team. They are senior pitcher Cloey Lovelady and sophomore infielder Mallory Lane.

Morgan County appears to be a hot spot for softball catchers. Brewer’s Adams was a first-team at that position in 5A. Priceville’s Walter was first-team in 4A. Broadfoot, who catches for Danville, was first-team at designated hitter in 4A. Hartselle’s Emily Cowart was second-team in Class 6A.
